You mentioned “reconstruction” as a theme in your life—how has that process of rebuilding and repairing impacted you personally and creatively?
It’s made me look at my life through an introspective lense. Creatively it’s caused me to be more relatable in my music & using my life as the motivation! It’s a process to get over generational trauma but I’m able to connect with my fans so much more by tapping into who I really am & not just rapping about good times.
How has becoming a first-time father shaped your music and outlook on life?
Everything is so much more intentional. I have no time to waste I don’t have half a day to waste in the studio trying to create something. So I’ll only go to the studio when I’m inspired and have something to write about. My daughter is my biggest motivation so I make sure everything I do is in alignment with who I want to be.
What have been the biggest challenges in balancing your roles as an artist, partner, and provider?
My biggest challenges has been tryna show up in all aspects. Sometime being the provider can become overwhelming while being a partner father and artist. But I’ve been working hard to keep balance & not putting more effort into one aspect but more so trying to keep a balance.
Can you share any key moments from the past year that pushed you to grow mentally or emotionally?
Having a daughter pushed me to become the man that I always knew I would be. One that handles business and stands on what he says. It was hard transitioning from rapping full time to having to get a day job but all these things pushed me to be stronger emotionally and mentally.
All in My Head" opens with a powerful voiceover from your father, sharing his pride, regrets, and happiness about reconnecting with you. Can you tell us more about what inspired this track and how that conversation shaped the tone of the album?
That exact conversation I’ve had with my dad a thousand times. I knew an apology to start off the album would be so powerful. There’s a lot of emotion in the project and I was looking for something to help set the tone!
It’s been over a year since your last release—what made you take your time with this project?
I took my time with this one because the music was so vulnerable. I also had a daughter in the mix of me making the project so I wanted to be present as a father & only decided to get in the studio when I knew I had something to say!
What can fans expect from the new music? Are there any standout tracks or features you’re particularly proud of?
I think the whole album was taking to the next level as far as productions & features go! I think that blackness ft Chairman Allen is one of the most powerful tracks on the project! You can just feel the passion behind the lyrics & messages. Also Flow ft Nova Gholar is one of my personal favorites. The song just feels so good the melodies the flows & background harmonies along with the incredible production makes it one of my favorites.
How has your sound evolved since your last drop? Were there any new influences or inspirations for this project?
I worked with a lot of the same producers from Veracity so I really just wanted to lock in and create something in alignment with where I was in life. All my producers are extremely talented so it was just about tapping into the right frequency.
Can you give us a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process? Were there moments that surprised or challenged you along the way?
Nothing felt to challenging as far as the creative process because I took so much time & was creating based around a lot of the experiences I was having. I guess the only thing difficult was not sharing the music keeping it to myself until it was ready.
"Blackness" features a collaboration with Chairman Allen. How did this partnership come about, and what was the creative process like working together on this track?
Chairman Allen is actually my blood brother. We've been making music together since 2015. My main goal of the song was to express my cultural awareness and also bring real hip hop vibes. I already knew my brother Allen would bring the perfect energy! I also got the perfect voiceover for the intro and outro by my brotha Lucky XL.
You mentioned you’re still working on yourself, what personal goals are you currently focused on?
Currently I’m focused on my mental & physical health! Trying to stay physically fit while also looking for therapy to start attacking healing the inner child!
What’s one thing you hope listeners take away from this project?
Your vulnerability is a gift! If there’s things you feel scared to express know that millions of other people have faced those same difficulties! We’re all human & need connection.
With everything you’ve gone through this past year, what advice would you give to other artists or new parents navigating similar experiences?
Balance is key. It’s so easy to get burnt out being a father, partner, & artist take time to do the things you love as well. You can’t make someone else happy when you’re not internally happy!
Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the future for yourself, your family, and your music career?
To continue to grow my brand and connect with likeminded individuals I’m not interested in being the industry’s biggest star but more concerned about being a light in peoples life I want people to hear my music and to know as a black man it’s okay to open up. I see myself going down as an all time great.
