Rihanna is Back! ‘Lift Me Up’ sets an angelic and emotional tone for ‘Wakanda Forever’

It's been six years since Rihanna released solo music but she's back and sounding more angelic than ever. Delivering the emotional ballad “Lift Me Up” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Rihanna opens the song with a soothing and spiritual hum followed by passionate words of yearning.

“Lift me up/Hold me down/Keep me close/Safe and sound...Burning in a hopeless dream/Hold me when you go to sleep/Keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart/Keep me safe, safe, and sound.”

Co-written by fellow artist Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler the song is meant to pay tribute to the late “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020. Tems shares her excitement following its release “Blessed to have written this song in honor of Chadwick Boseman and even more blessed to hear the baddest @badgalriri voice it to perfection.” Rihanna responds giving a nod to Tems with a “It’s the pen for me … love to you sistren”. With a song sure to tug at heartstrings the singer sets the tone for a very sentimental film. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Music From and Inspired By” will be released on November 4, followed by the highly anticipated Black Panther sequel in theaters on November 11.
